Bishop makes diocesan changes

  Bishop Fintan Monahan has announced a number of new anointments in the Diocese of Killaloe, which has a Catholic population of around 127,000. Fr Des Hillery, PP, Nenagh was appointed Vicar General of the diocese during the year. In Ballynacally/Lissycasey, Fr Joe Hourigan to retire as parish priest but continuing to lead the sacramental and pastoral work in the parish. Fr Albert McDonnell, to take on the administration of the parish and become the parish priest in addition to his existing duties. Fr Martin O’Brien to retire as PP of Tulla and to take extended leave from duty on medical advice. Fr Ignatius McCormack, Adm., Quin has recently been appointed principal of St Flannan’s College. Quin will now be covered by Ennis parish, pro-tem, supported by the Abbey cluster. Fr Tom O’Gorman as Adm., will continue to live in the presbytery, Cloughleigh, effective from September 1. Two year term for Moloney/O’Connor management team

It’s official. Donal Moloney and Gerry O’Connor are the new joint managers of the Clare senior hurling team. At the October meeting of Clare GAA at the county’s centre of excellence in Caherlohan this evening, they were unanimously appointed for a two year term on the proposition of Dan Treacy (Scariff), seconded by Josie Nevin (Eire Og). There was no indication as to who will be in their backroom team. Board chairman Joe Cooney told the delegates that the make up of a number of the management teams has yet to be finalised. It is understood that Donal Og Cusack will be continuing as team coach. Limerick man Liam Cronin who has coached Eire Og this season will be in the set up along with Jimmy Browne from Clonlara who was a member of the backroom team with Moloney and O’Connor when they led Clare to three Munster and All-Ireland under 21 titles. Fitzy and Collins commit to Clare

Clare senior hurling manager Davy Fitzgerald and his football counterpart Colm Collins have informed Clare GAA of their intention to complete their managerial terms and remain in charge of the county sides for 2016. In a statement issued through county board public relations officer, Sean O’Halloran the board said it welcomes and fully supports the commitments received from both managers and “looks forward to their review of their respective 2015 campaigns as well as an outline of their plans for 2016”. Board chairman Michael McDonagh was equally delighted with developments. He said, “I am delighted that Colm and Davy are committed to remaining in their respective positions for 2016. Whileeveryone associated with Clare GAA is disappointed with the progress ofboth teams during 2015, we firmly believe that there are better things in store, and both Davy and Colm are the right people to lead their teams forward.”
