A MULTI-MILLION euro social housing development for Scariff has hit a hitch, after questions were raised over its proposed density by the Department of Housing. Councillor Pat Burke sought an update on the status of the project at the recent meeting of the Killaloe Municipal District. Director of Services Ann Haugh, who also heads up the Social Development Directorate, outlined the current situation with the planned development at Ballyminogue. “We have encountered a slight delay,” she told the meeting. “We made a Stage 2 application to the department, but it was return to us not approved. We have had to go back and look at densities and other issues. A PARTEEN woman, whose home has been seriously damaged by the presence of a defective building material, has made an emotional appear for others affected to go public about their situation. Geraldine Kennedy is one of more than 35 members of the recently-formed Clare Pyrite/Mica Action Group. The group is calling for home owners in this county to be allowed into a scheme to address the issue of defective concrete blocks in Donegal and Mayo. The grandmother of ten has already spent thousands of Euro on tests to prove that her home has 95% pyrite. She later spent €6,000 to have a chimney taken down, after fears it might fall. Clare County Council has completed clean ups of significant illegal dumping sites at Ballyblood Bog, Tulla; Donail, Killimer; and Islandavanna, Clarecastle. More than 40 tonnes of illegally dumped waste were collected during the clean-ups were facilitated by national funding from the Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment (DCCAE) supported by the Waste Enforcement Regional Lead Authority (WERLA). Anne Haugh, Director, Physical Development, Clare County Council, said, “Clare County Council’s Environmental Enforcement Team secured funding this year to allow a number of significant clean ups to take place across the county. A number of illegal dump sites were prioritised by the enforcement team and additional monies were drawn down in recent weeks, bringing the total grant aid under the Anti-Dumping Initiative to €40,000.” “There were a number of sites identified for action under the Anti-Dumping Initiative.
