Clare golfer recaptures Ulster Women’s Strokeplay title

Aideen Walsh, who is a member of both Lahinch and Woodstock Golf Clubs, was crowned Ulster Women’s Strokeplay Champion as she defended the title that she secured in 2021. Walsh finished -5 for the tournament, five strokes ahead of Roscommon Golf Club’s Olivia Costello and Kate Lanigan from Hermitage Golf Club. This was a dominant victory for the Ennis native as an opening round of 69 saw her take a two-shot lead over Jan Browne. Despite a double-bogey on her very first hole, Walsh produced some terrific golf over the rest of the round. Birdies on the third, fifth, tenth, fourteenth, fifteenth and sixteenth holes allowed her to finish the round on -4. Despite a bogey on the thirteenth during her second round, Walsh birdied holes 10 and 15 to give herself every chance of recapturing the title. St Anne’s farewell video attracts huge response

A NEW farewell video marking the graduation of Leaving Certificate students from St Anne’s Community College has attracted in the region of 8,000 views on the internet. School chaplain, Karol Torpey has revealed the school has received very positive feedback from people who have watched this video since it was posted on Monday, May 11. “Parents and students have commented and sent messages and other schools have contacted me to say it was excellent. It gave everyone a lift in a week we needed,” she said. “We wanted to say goodbye in a way that was proper. We get the know the students for six years and love them like our own. Sometimes teachers know students more than their parents because we spend so much more time with them during the day. “We end up in discussions on their own views about what is happening in the world.
