Clare hurlers determined to beat Galway

ALL-Ireland final hero from 2013, Domhnall O’Donovan looks set to be named at corner-back, the  position he starred in two years ago, for Sunday’s opening game in this season’s league campaign against Galway at Pearse Stadium in Salthill. The Clonlara man’s absence from the 2014 championship side was one of the big talking points of the year. He has played in most of their games to date this year and has impressed. Clare’s magnificent seven U-21s

Seven Clare players have been named on the U-21 hurling team of the year, among them Sedna Morey, Colm Galvin and 2013 player of the year, Tony Kelly, who were on last year’s side. The win made history for Clare GAA, as it bought a third U-21 hurling  title in-a-row to the county. Midfielder Colm Galvin, a nominee for player of the year, is the only man to be named in the same position as he was in the 2013 Bord Gáis Energy team. Teammate, Aaron Cunningham and Wexford’s Conor McDonald are the other two in the running for this accolade. Seadna Morey is selected on the full-back line this year having been chosen at wing-back last year. Tony Kelly, gets the nod at centre forward, …

Initial fears that Clare hurler Aaron Cunningham would be out of the game for a long spell due to the injury suffered in last Wednesday’s Munster under 21 first round win over Limerick have eased. “Following a scan on Thursday, the injury isn’t as bad as we thought. We are awaiting further checks on his further knee”, senior hurling selector Louis Mulqueen said this weekend. “Aaron situation is a knee problem. Unfortunately with Aaron, he’s been injured a lot and rehab is the thing. It takes a bit of time. His shoulder was out at different times throughout the year. He was starting to come good and his form was coming. At the moment we’re still waiting for further checks on the scan but yesterday’s scan wasn’t as bad as we thought. He’s still away with a swollen knee”, Cunningham said. Meanwhile All-Ireland hero Shane O’Donnell is continuing to receive treatment for a hamstring injury. “Shane had a six-week programme …
