15 gold medal haul for Ennis club


 

A haul of 15 gold medals was just the tip of the iceberg for the 62 grade C swimmers representing Ennis Swimming and Lifesaving Club at a Munster Graded Gala at St Enda’s Sports Complex in Limerick.
With 32 of the team taking part in their first competition at this level, the club won 45 medals, 13 gold, 19 silver and 13 bronze, in the individual events and a total of eight medals, two gold, three silver and three bronze, in the relay events.
In the boy’s 12-13 age group, Gerard Kennedy made the Grade B qualifying times. He captured gold in the 100m individual medley in a personal best (pb) time of 1.38.53. He added two silver medals in the 100m freestyle and 50m backstroke.
In the girl’s U-11 age group, Odette Gleeson put in consistent swims in earning two silver medals in the 100m individual medley and the 50m butterfly and a bronze medal in the 50m backstroke. Eimear Wolf swam an exceptional 100m freestyle in a personal best time of 1.29.84 that earned her the gold medal and she added to this a silver medal in the 50m freestyle.
Ciara Murphy Wright put in a strong effort and secured a bronze medal in the 50m freestyle in a time of 40.06.
There were also personal best swims by Aoife Barry, Briana Fennell, Ailish Gowran, Mia Hanrahan, Jenna Lewis, Tara McEvoy, Keeva McHugh, Niamh McHugh, Rachel McMahon, Sarah McMahon, Ivana Pyne, Sinead Rooney and Crea Sullivan.
In the girl’s 12-13 age group, Niamh Staunton swam well and won a gold medal in the 50m backstroke. Hannah Bredin knocked off six seconds in establishing a new pb in her 100m freestyle in a time of 1:30.21 and won the silver medal. Katie Rose Healy won two silver medals in the 100m individual medley and the 50m breaststroke and a bronze medal in the 50m backstroke. Laura McMahon put in a good swim and won a silver medal in the 50m freestyle. Rachel Daly won two bronze medals in the 50m freestyle and the 50m breaststroke. Laoise Hill, Caoimhe Hogan, Aisling Mahony, Caelainn Meaney, Laura Morgan, Fiona Quinn, Ciara Reidy and Danielle O’Sullivan all swam well and had personal best times in a number of their races.
In the girl’s 14-15 age group Hannah Coote won two gold medals in the 50m freestyle and the 50m backstroke. She added to this a silver medal in the 100m freestyle. Caiomhe Tweedy won four silver medals in the 100m individual medley, 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke and the 50m breaststroke.
In the boy’s U-11 age group, Eoin McNamara put in some excellent swims in winning a gold medal in the 100m freestyle and a bronze medal in the 100m individual medley. Conor Sheehy won gold in the 50m backstroke and a silver medal in the 50m freestyle. Bence Pillis won two gold medals in the 100m individual medley and the 50m breaststroke. He added a bronze medal in the 50m backstroke in a pb of 49.02. Keelan Butler won a bronze medal in his 50m freestyle swim. Robert Casey, Nathan Coote, Ronan Corey, Conor Devitt, Eoin Garrihy, Eoghan Grace, Colm Harrison, Conor Hogan, Joseph Keatinge, David James Maloney, Ruairi Power and Noel Shannon all excelled in their events and set a number of personal bests.
In the boy’s 12-13 age group, Harry Broderick won a bronze medal in the 50m freestyle. The 50m breaststroke saw Sean Collins taking the silver medal while team mate Darragh Broderick took the bronze. Niall Coote won the bronze medal in the 50m backstroke. Personal best times were also set by Alexander Carr, Ronan Grace, Cillian Gregan, Brian Kelly, James King, David McDonnell, Jack Shannon and David Sheehy.
In the boy’s 14-15 age group, Adam Pillis put in strong swims in securing the gold medal in four events. They were the 100m freestyle, 100m individual medley, 50m freestyle and the 50m backstroke. Ronan Brigdale finished with three silver medals in the 100m individual medley, the 50m breaststroke and the 50m freestyle. He also earned bronze medals in the 50m backstroke and the 100m freestyle.
