Successful Ennis CBS squash blitz

Another successful Christmas squash blitz was held at Ennis CBS Squash Club last week, with a large entry despite the weather conditions.

Team F, captained by Brent Cash, were installed as favourites from the start and they proved the bookmakers correct when they overcame Team C, led by Mike Lydon, in a closely fought final.
The runners-up got off to great start when Mike Lydon beat Brent Cash 15-14 and this continued when Joe Griffin overcame veteran Jackie Hynes on a similar scoreline.  However, big hitter Martin Sexton was on court next for Team F and he started the comeback with a big win over Ray McInerney on a score of 15-7. The deciding match between Joe Joe Whelan and Stephen Bergin was last on court. With Joe Joe needing six points to secure the team victory, he showed no mercy and won 15-4.
The third/fourth place play-off was a one-sided match from the start. Clive Morgan led his team of Pat McCagh, Colm Murphy and Eugene O’ Byrne to a handsome victory over Larry Donnellan, John O’Shaugnessy, Jim Bowe and Darren Pilkington.
The prize presentation was well attended in Kerins’ Bar later that evening and a great night was had by all.
The monthly leagues continue during the month of December and all matches are to be completed by January 9, 2011. Key matches of note this month will see Michael Conlon play Clive Morgan in division one, Colum Gavin taking on Brent Cash in division two and a return to competitive squash for Gerry Bredin in division four, where he will renew rivalry with Jackie Hynes.
