Strong Clare contingent at Munster road championships


THE Munster Athletics Association senior and novice road championships will take place this Sunday in Beaufort. There will be two races with the novice and senior ladies (two-mile) at 1pm, followed by the novice and senior men’s (four miles ) at 1.20pm.

Clare will be fielding full teams in all grades with the senior men’s team looking to Jason Fahy (Olympic Harriers) to lead out the Clare challenge along with Michael Shannon (Kilnaboy) and he will be supported by Brian Murphy, Martin Grealish, Danny Folan (all Ennis Track) along with Paul Gallagher (St Finbarr’s) and Kenny Rodgers (St John’s).
Michelle O’Mahoney and Sharon Rynne (both Kilmurry Ibrickane/North Clare), Marie Carey, Deirdre Troy and Deirdre Daly Cahill will contest the novice ladies ( two miles) along with Claire Madigan (St John’s) and these girls will also contest the senior ladies’ title along with Tracy Guilfoyle (Kilnaboy), Sue Garrahy (Kilmurry Ibrickane/North Clare), Marian Burke and Loretta Duggan (St Mary’s).

Novice ladies (two miles)

Senior ladies (two miles)

12. Irish Schools and Universities Cross Country in Dublin at 12noon.
12. Clare Community Games U-13 cross country and 4 x 250m cross country relays in Lees Road Sports Complex at 11am.
13. Adare 10k Road Race at 1.30pm.
13. Munster AAI Senior and Novice Men four-mile and two-mile for Ladies’ Road Championship at Beaufort County Kerry at 1pm.
17. Joey Hannon Memorial Road Race in Croom.
19 and 20. Athletics Ireland Juvenile Track and Field championships in Magharafelt, Derry at 10am.
20. 39th IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Punta Umbria, Spain.
25. Clare Community Games Relays in Cooraclare at 6pm.
26. The Newmarket-on-Fergus Pakie Ryan Memorial 10km Road Race and 5km fun walk in aid of Milford Hospice, Mid-West Cancer Care Centre and Clare Crusaders starting at the soccer pitch at 11am (Contact Flan Sheedy 086 8662920).
27. Munster AAI Masters Men four-mile and Masters Ladies’ two-mile Road Championship at Dundrum County Tipperary at 1pm.
