Ennis Street Festival, running from July 5 to 7, will showcase a variety of events, which under this year’s theme will encourage visitors to Let’s Explore.
Two aerial shows with community participation will be the main attraction when Fidget Feet will perform an aerial show launching from a 40m high crane at Abbey Street Car Park. These shows will be held at 3pm and 11pm on Sunday, July 7.
The aerial performance group will also provide a creative opportunity to both professional artists and to the public to get involved through drumming and performance workshops.
A packed line-up of events was announced at the launch on Saturday and full details are available locally and from Glór in Ennis.
This year’s visual art project will follow the Let’s Explore theme and artists will showcase works based on folklore and enchantment. A unique visual experience will be produced through an intense and grand display of eye sculptures around the streets. These sculptures will be produced by community groups in collaboration with local and visiting artists.
Tic Toc puppets will be in town again, offering their own brand of street theatre, while a music and street art project will be run in conjunction with the Clare Youth Services.
An open air art exhibition entitled Art for All will see artists exhibit at the Temple Gate Hotel car park, while this year’s art trail will see more than 21 shops exhibiting art projects.
There will be plenty for all the family with street entertainment with Mr Oliver Plunk, Capitan Windazz, Penny Farthing, Professor Plunger and juggling escapologist Monsieur Gusto.
There will be live music over the three days in a variety of venues featuring bands such as Windings, Buzz Monkeys, Keith McDonald, the Harleys and Buck Taylor Experience. Ennis singer songwriter Síomha Brock will perform in Glór on July 6 at 8pm. As part of her show, she wants to organise a conference about music production for young musicians. This event is being held as a fundraiser for Clare Youth Services.
There will also be traditional music sessions outdoors at Barrack Street, and in Brogan’s and Cruises as well as Latin music with Ochy Calderón and 8 punto, singing from Ennis Gospel Choir and dance with the Break Through Dance Company, Dinan School of Ballet, Summerville Irish Dance Academy among others.
Theatre-goers won’t be disappointed either as Glór hosts The Butcher Molloy, a one-act play by Conor Montague, and Dhá Lámh Theatre will present Frank McGuinness’ play Baglady and This Happened in the City Jail by Laura Mulcahy.
The annual duck race makes a welcome return and this year the public are invited to get involved. The event sees a large contingent of rubber ducks navigate an arduous course down the river Fergus.
Further events include an international art and craft market; an art bomb project; shadow puppetry and storytelling; workshops in circus skills, clowning, acrobatics, visual art, djing, hip hop, origami, mime, singing, felting and crochet.
