Special achievement for Nash

Diarmuid Nash is presented with his award by Uachtarán of GAA Handball, Tony Hannon, after winning the men’s 23 and under singles at the GAA Handball 40x20 Irish Nationals.WHEN Scariff teenager Diarmuid Nash won the Irish men’s 23 and under handball singles title last week in Kingscourt in Cavan, it marked a special achievement.

There are just four underage national handball titles played for in Ireland and the Tuamgraney man has now won all four, as he had previously captured the U-15, U-17 and U-19 crowns.
This was Diarmuid’s fourth Irish national title in five years and he is still only 19 years old. He is also a talented hurler with Scariff and he has represented Clare on a number of occasions.
In last week’s handball final, he defeated Martin Mulkerrins from Galway in straight sets, 21-6 and 21-12.
Nash’s experience proved decisive in the contest and he fully deserved his success.
Clare handball followers are confident that he will, in the not too distant future, challenge for the national senior title.
