THE ladies of St Joseph’s Doora-Barefield defeated Meelick in the final of the Junior B Ladies’ Football Shield final the the Bank Holiday Monday.
The sides had met earlier in the competition and little had separated them at any stage throughout. Conditions were ideal for the final with a nice fresh breeze blowing down field. The Parish took the game to Meelick from the whistle and registered some early scores to settle the team. Doora-Barefield seemed to have control of the game from the start and although Meelick fought back, they could never come close enough to take the spoils.
Sarah Nugent had a fine game at full-back, getting great support from Mary O’Connor at centre-back and they made life hard for the Meelick forwards. Kavina Kenny and Kelly Ann Hassett had the better of things at midfield and up front, Niamh O Loughlin, Molly Brannock, Aoife Murphy, Sarah O’Keeffe and Michelle McMahon played great football. Goalkeeper Emma Burke had a superb game.
The chairman of the ladies’ football board Johnny Hayes presented the shield to Doora Barefield captain, Kavina Kenny.
