Search continues for Seamus

AN Ennis woman has described her extreme worry as the search for her foster son, missing since the weekend, continues.

Twenty-two-year-old Seamus Higgins was last seen in the Dun na hInse housing estate in Ennis on Saturday, August 10.

Tina Whelan, who has fostered Seamus since he was 14, said “We are all extremely worried about him. We are just hoping that anyone with any information about his whereabouts will come forward. I’ve been out in all the fields around Dun na hInse searching for him. We’ve all been out looking for him and there has been no sighting of him, nothing. When he didn’t come back, I was very worried because it’s not like him. I had all his friends contacted and there was nothing and still is nothing. His friends are all in bits.

“He was living in Southampton for the last few years and he was home on holidays; he’s a great fella. I’ve been parenting him since he was 14; he’s my own and this is his home.”
Extensive searches have been carried out for Seamus since he was reported missing. Members of the Clare Civil Defence have been carrying out searches of the nearby Claureen river and banks. Other searches have taken place in Lees Road, as well as vacant premises in the town.

Tina said she and the rest of her family have received a lot of support as the search for Seamus continues. A Facebook campaign has been set up at ‘Seamus Higgins, Please Help Find Him’, while Twitter has also been used in a bid to get information. Posters have also been put up throughout Ennis and in other parts of the county, urging anybody who may have seen Seamus to contact gardaí.

“I just don’t know what to say about people, they are just amazing. Strangers who don’t know me or Seamus from Adam are helping,” said Tina.

Seamus was last seen jumping a wall in the area of the Dun na hInse. He was wearing jeans, a grey jumper with grey hoodie underneath and white and navy runners. Anyone who has seen Seamus or who can assist in locating him can contact Ennis Garda Station on 065 6848100, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any garda station.
