A FANCIED Rineanna Rovers side were made fight all the way for victory by Ruan United in their tie last weekend.

Ruan went in front with a Gavin Dinan goal from a free kick after 15 minutes. On the half-hour mark Rineanna equalised from a set piece when Enda Kelly was on target and this left the game at 1-1 at half-time.

Tulla Utd A 4
Kilrush Rangers 1
The Clare cup first-round tie at the Cragg on Sunday produced plenty of talking points.
The final scoreline suggests a comfortable win for the home team but, in reality, they were made fight all the way for victory by a Kilrush Rangers side that finished the game with eight players after they had three of their team dismissed.
The home team took the lead when Niall Whelan scored following a corner and this score separated the teams at half-time. The visitors were reduced to 10 men in the first half when Eoin Fitzgerald was shown a straight red card.
Early in the second half, substitute Keith Leninan doubled Tulla’s advantage before Kilrush pulled one back through Gearóid Lynch. Shortly after this, Kilrush claims for a penalty were turned down and soon Tulla were two clear again after Whelan scored his second. Lenihan then had his second to put Tulla in a strong position. Kilrush’s tale of woe continued when Martin Danagher and Kevin Larkin both saw yellow for the second time, which resulted in their dismissal.
Tulla finished the game with 10 men when substitute Kevin DeLoughrey had to leave the field due to injury at a time when they had used their quote of substitutes.
Tulla United A: Shane Collins, Niall Whelan, Padraic O’Malley, Denis Murphy, Dara Corry, Tommy McKeown, Gearóid O’Doherty, Paudge Vaughan, Shane Mason, Alan Brigdale, Mike McDermott.

Kilkishen Celtic 1
Manus Celtic A 1
(AET Manus won 4-3 on penalties)

ADRIAN McDonagh gave Manus the lead in the first half of their lively cup tie played at Kilkishen. McDonagh recently joined Manus from Avenue and he scored after good play by the Geraghty brothers, Mikey and Stephen.
Kilkishen equalised 20 minutes into second half through Derek Canny, a score that was deserved, as they had a number of efforts saved by Manus goalie, Jeff Healy prior to this.
Extra time failed to separate the teams and this resulted in a penalty shoot-out. James Hook, Damian O’Connell and Shane McInerney scored for Kilkishen, while Fergus Donovan had his effort saved but Derek Canny saw his kick sail over the crossbar.
The winners’ penalty scorers were Seanie Travers, Barry Guinnane and Kevin Clohessy before Michael McDonagh had his effort saved. When John Molloy stepped up to the final spot kick he needed to score to ensure his side’s passage to the next round and he duly did.
