Rocking and rolling with new club

ROCK ‘n’ rollers will be pulling on their blue suede shoes next week for a celebration of the King in Ennis that will leave them all shook up.
The newly formed Ennis Rock ‘n’ Roll Club is hosting its first event on Thursday, August 16 at 9pm. The club is organising a tribute night commemorating the 35th anniversary of Elvis’ death, with UK impersonator Mark Summers making his only Irish appearance in the Auburn Lodge Hotel.
Joe Cronin of the Ennis Rock ‘n’ Roll Club said, “We decided to set up the club because I believe there is a real need for something for the over 30s to enjoy in Ennis. I was involved in the Limerick club and I thought this is something that could catch on here in Ennis.
“We’re only just beginning and this Elvis night is our first event but we have had a lot of positive feedback. Our Facebook friends are growing and we’ve had people getting onto us for group bookings for the Elvis night.
“With the anniversary of Elvis’ death coming up on August 16, I thought it was only appropriate that this would be our first event. Of course, the night in the Auburn Lodge marks exactly the date of the anniversary. We’re only starting the club but if this goes well, we will be hosting even more nights. I’d love to get the Bootleg Beatles over from Liverpool and we have lots of other ideas for the club going into the future.”
He added, “Mark is a legendary Elvis impersonator in the UK so we are delighted that he is coming here to Ennis for our first ever event.
“He fronted the famous Elvis Legacy Tour from 2008 to 2011. He is one of the select few Elvis impersonators who has been officially recognised and endorsed by Elvis Presley Enterprises Inc.”
As well as the Elvis tribute, there will also be an appearance by Limerick DJ Tex, who will be playing hits from the ’50s and ’60s.
Tickets are available from the reception of the Auburn Lodge Hotel and the Queen’s Hotel, the Argan Café in the Friary car park or directly from the Ennis Rock ‘n’ Roll Club committee. Contact Joe on 087 9932907 for details.
