Mayor of Ennis Peter Considine officially unveiled the Active Trail equipment, which can be used to aid rehabilitation from injury or ill health, as well as encouraging people of all ages to take personal fitness to the next level.
The Active Trail offers 16 challenging climbing, rope and balance landscapes, which are available in differing degrees of difficulties. The equipment was installed by Crawford Contracts Group Ltd, while the National Lottery and the Department of Transport and Sport and Ennis Town Council funded the project.
Speaking at the official opening, Mayor of Ennis Peter Considine said, “Lees Road Sports and Amenity Park provides a range of facilities and recreational opportunities for the people of Ennis and County Clare. The addition of the Active Trail equipment will supplement and enhance the facilities already available in the park and throughout Ennis. Furthermore, the new facilities have been opened less than a month after the sod was turned on a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) at Tim Smythe Park in Ennis.
“This Active Trail Equipment will enhance the recreational opportunities for children, youths and adults in the community. I am sure that many hours of fun, enjoyment and entertainment will be had by all users of this equipment,” he added.
Ennis town clerk Leonard Cleary added, “This outdoor equipment incorporates exercise activities for all abilities. The importance of exercise for all age groups cannot be emphasised enough and this Active Trail equipment ensures that the more mature child also benefits from regular activity.”
“Lees Road Sports and Amenity Park is a very worthwhile asset for the whole community. It is a major asset for Ennis and the response from the public and sporting organisations is very positive. It is conveniently located close to a centre of population and the multiplicity of sporting uses has proven to very popular,” Mr Cleary concluded.
