An eagle-eyed Clare garda went above and beyond the call of duty this week, managing to recover stolen property before a crime had even been reported.
Approximately €1,000 worth of steel products were taken from a business in the Shannon Industrial Estate on Saturday afternoon. However, before this was reported to the authorities, a garda had already recovered the material and made an arrest.
The Shannon-based garda was on patrol in the area when he noticed something suspicious. On further investigation he discovered the missing steel and arrested a person in connection with it. A file is now being sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
“It was a great example of vigilance on behalf of the garda in question. The garda was very observant and deserves credit for detecting the crime so quickly,” said a senior Clare garda.
