Presidential award for Kilkishen man

KILKISHEN’S Michael McNamara was presented with a GAA presidential award at a function in Croke Park last week.
The award was presented in recognition of his contribution to the promotion of Scór over the past 40 years.
Michael was one of 16 winners honoured at a special banquet at Croke Park and the scheme recognises long-standing GAA volunteers, who have served the association with distinction in their chosen field over a prolonged period.
The recipients chosen by association president, Christy Cooney, were drawn from across all strands of the association and represent all codes and disciplines from the wider GAA family.
“This scheme is about honouring and acknowledging those who work so hard on our behalf for such long periods of time, to ensure we have vibrant clubs and activity all over the country. This commitment is not played out in the limelight and does not generate headlines but it is the sort of dedication that makes the GAA what it is,” the Cork man said.
“These awards acknowledge the loyalty of a group of exemplary volunteers that I hope will remain active in Cumann Lúthchleas Gael for many years to come.”
Michael McNamara was elected as secretary of Clare Scór back in 1972 and he has held the position of chairman since 1990. He was chairman of Scór na Mumhan from 1998 to 2000 and for the last 10 years, he has served as provincial secretary. He has been on the Central Scór Committee since 2005.
In addition to his work to promote Scór, he has also competed with a lot of success in question time, recitation and novelty act sections.
Michael’s involvement in GAA affairs isn’t confined to Scór. He is a former secretary of his club, O’Callaghan’s Mills and has served the club in a variety of positions over the years.
