Playing on the Avenues of glory


IT was a great weekend for Avenue United’s schoolboy sides as five of them won cup finals. In only one grade, U-13, Avenue were not represented in the final and this title was won by Moneypoint who beat Ennis Town 2-1.

Avenue United U-12’s Ben Egan feels the challenge of Aaron Twist and Killian Clancy.Odd age finals were played at the County Grounds on Saturday, with evens the following day.
In U-11, Avenue defeated Lifford 6-0, with two goals from Jamie Roche, two from Ben Egan, and one each from Killian McDermott and Vincent Quinlan. Man of the match was Ben Egan.
In the U-12 final, the Ennis side defeated Corofin 3-0 with Thomas Hehir, Kieran Mahony and Vincent Quinlan on target. There was some consolation for the losers as one of their players, Killian Malone, was named man of the match.
Avenue and Lifford played out a scoreless draw in the U-14 final, and even extra time failed to separate them. However, Avenue triumphed in the penalty shoot out 4-3.
In the U-16 final Avenue defeated local rivals Ennis Town 3-0. Two of the goals came from man of the match Darren Kerin and the other from Michael Gallagher.
