Patrick’s Day parade moved to Monday

This year’s Gort St Patrick’s Day parade will be held on Monday, March 18 at 1pm. The parade is being held on the Monday to facilitate all who wish to support St Thomas’s hurlers in the All-Ireland club hurling final in Croke Park and also to take part in, or attend, the parade.

The parade theme of “The Gathering” fits in very well as both the parade and GAA matches bring people together to enjoy and support these events.

Gort parade committee extends an invitation to community groups, businesses, voluntary organisations, sporting, youth and school groups and individuals to take part in the parade.

Participation can be by way of floats or on foot. The parade theme is there as a guideline only and participants are welcome to adopt any theme they like.

The commercial aspect of the parade has become very important in recent years.

Local businesses and service providers are invited to promote their enterprise by way of float, in an imaginative way if, possible. It is the cheapest form of advertising available in front of large audience. Community groups also use the parade to promote their forthcoming events.
