Over 5,000 expected at athletics finals on Sunday


THE Golden Vale Clare Community Games Athletic Finals take place this Sunday in the Lees Road complex. Over 5,000 children will gather for this spectacular event with assembly for the parade at 11.30am the parade and official opening at 12 noon.
Athletics will commence at 1pm with the U-10 mixed relay.

Gymnastics
GYMASTICS finals were held at the Ennis Gymnastic Club on Sunday last. The event attracted a good turnout of competitors and spectators from a number of areas around the county.
Hugo Kinahan (Cratloe), Jane Taylor (Quin/Clooney) and Elizabeth Russell (St John’s Ennis), last year’s medal winners at the National Community Games Finals at Athlone, again showed their skill and expertise in winning their respective events and qualifying again for the national finals.
The presentation of medals were made by the county president and vice-president, John and Cecilia O’Sullivan. The president complimented all the competitors for participating, the judges, Maria and Emma Sheehy who travelled from Kerry and Mary Callinan and Megan O’Brien from Clare. Claire O’Sullivan and Veronica Keane of the Ennis Gymnastics Club co-ordinated the competition this year and in previous years.

THE rounders competition was co-ordinated in Sixmilebridge by Margaret O’Halloran on Tuesday last. The U-15 girls final between Kilmihil and Sixmilebridge/Kilmurry was a brilliant match with Kilmihil edging ahead to win the gold from a very good Sixmilebridge team.

Skittles
THE teams to represent Clare in the Munster finals in July are both from the Kilkishen/O’Callaghan’s Mills/Oatfield area.

Gaelic football

THE girls U-12 Gaelic football was held in Lissycasey, co-ordinated by Mary Keane.
Kilmihil were the winners on the night and now go forward to represent Clare in the Munster finals.
