Orla has designs on Dublin

Orla Hannon from Pollough in Sixmilebridge is one of 16 designers of a unique Dublin tour guide, which was designed for people with Down Syndrome by people with Down Syndrome.

The guide was launched by Down Syndrome Ireland last week and is designed to help young people with Down Syndrome to navigate their way through the streets of the capital.

The guide is 88 pages long and serves as an easy-to-read guidebook that is both a visual and written tour of the city featuring text and imagery that make sightseeing in the capital a fun and informative experience.

The comprehensive guide is packed with interesting historical facts, information on the Irish climate and its culture as well tips on the top things to do in Dublin. It details the capital city’s traffic issues, offers advice on the clothing to wear while visiting and even has information on the cost of public transport.

It is one of three European city guides produced by Down Syndrome associations in Dublin, Rome and Lisbon under the Grundtvig’s Lifelong Learning Programme.

Pat Clarke of Down Syndrome Ireland said, “Down Syndrome Ireland is committed to ensuring that young people with Down Syndrome experience the same life opportunities as their peers in the general population. In order to realise this goal we are committed to leading the way in providing the necessary supports to empower our members to avail of life’s opportunities through various projects and initiatives.”
