Newmarket manager gets seal of approval

Bob Enright, who managed Newmarket-on-Fergus to their first senior hurling championship title in 31 years, was re-appointed to the position when the club held its annual general meeting on Sunday evening.

 

Many tributes were paid to all involved in the senior team’s success.

The club is on the look-out for a new secretary after Brian Enright did not seek re-election. Pat Keogh will continue as club chairman for another year.

Those elected for the coming season are: chairman, Pat Keogh; vice-chairman, Caimin Jones; treasurer, Tomás Gregan; PRO, Concepta O’Connor; club na nÓg chairman, Eddie Griffin; senior hurling manager, Bob Enright; U-21 manager, Tomás Ryan; camogie chairperson, Marie-Louise Kaiser; park development chairman, Jim Woods; child protection officer, Bridie O’Looney; field maintenance officer, Jim O’Neill and county board delegate, Mike Clancy.

Kennedy to continue with Kilmurry Ibrickane
The annual general meeting of Kilmurry Ibrickane senior club opened with a minute’s silence for all the deceased in the parish over the past year.

Chairman Martin Lynch and secretary Tim MacNamara detailed another successful year for the club, winning the Jack Daly, Cusack and O’Gorman Cups for a second year in-a-row. They also acknowledged the club winning the Brian Casey Memorial Cup, a seven-a-side competition promoted by Lissycasey GAA, for the first time.

Praise was also given to all involved with the Junior Bs, who claimed that title for the first time since 2002 and will make the step up to Junior A for 2013.

The club has a new vice-chairman in Tommy Galvin and a new PRO in Paul Shanahan.

Kerry’s All-Ireland medal winner, John Kennedy is to continue as the senior manager, while Dermot Coughlan has been added to the management team.

St Joseph’s committed to hurling and football
More than 57 members attended the annual general meeting of St Joseph’s GAA Club in Gurteen at the weekend where chairman Berney Hallinan gave a comprehensive address that covered the main achievements of the year and defined what St Joseph’s GAA Club means to the parish and community. He stressed the dual club is committed to supporting hurling and football at all times.

Secretary, Donal O’Connor presented a 37-page report that covered all the activities of the club, including the sub-committees and team managers’ reports. He lauded the essential work done by committees and team managers in ensuring the success of a dual club like St Joseph’s. He said that while reaching four adult finals was great, it was disappointing that no silverware was won.

He paid tribute to Jarlath Colleran and Davy Conroy on their successes with the Clare U-21s and minors respectively.

Martin Coffey, as treasurer, showed that the club had returned a very modest profit of just 0.4% after costs of €110,000 for the year. He stressed that new income streams need to be developed and that the lotto and membership offer real potential to grow.

The meeting endorsed the work of Sean Duggan as schools’ coach and emphasised the essential need to continue with this investment.

The election of officers saw Noel Stapleton replace the retiring Martin Coffey as treasurer, while Brian Dilleen was elected assistant secretary in succession to Vinny Sheedy. Team managers will be confirmed at the first executive meeting of 2013.

St Joseph’s Minor Club

MORE than 40 members attended the annual general meeting of St Joseph’s, Doora-Barefield Minor Club in Gurteen last Thursday.

The registration evening for 2013 is set for Friday, February 1 in Gurteen from 7pm to 9pm.

The meeting was well attended, with managers from the different age groups presenting their reports to the meeting. The chairman paid tribute to all involved for their hard work during the past year and said he is looking forward to a great year ahead.

The full executive elected is: chairman, Bill Clohessy; vice-chairman, Joe Hennessy; secretary, Declan Hannan; assistant secretary, Dervilla Moloney; treasurer, Sean Lyons; PRO, Dervilla Moloney and registrar, Anthony O’Halloran. Team managers will be selected at the club’s first meeting early in the new year.

A big weekend for O’Curry’s GAA

Next weekend will be a particularly busy one for O’Curry’s GAA. On Friday, December 28, members will review a successful season when they gather in Teach Cheoil at 5.30pm for the annual general meeting. From there, they will move to Pakie Keane’s for the club’s race night.

On Sunday, December 30, the club will hold a victory dinner dance at the Bellbridge Hotel, when the intermediate championship-winning team will be presented with their medals. Tickets for the function are available from club officials.

Ennistymon hurlers prepare for 2013

Ennistymon Hurling Club held its annual general meeting last week when secretary, Tom Sexton, gave a detailed account of the 2012 season. He stated that the club’s intermediate team was unlucky not to get to the championship semi-final, losing out on score difference.

He paid tribute to everyone involved with the club and acknowledged Cathal Malone for winning an All-Ireland U-21 medal. Sixmilebridge’s Brian Culbert was ratified as manager/coach for the coming season.

The following officers were elected: president, Phil Fahy; chairman, Pascal Malone; secretary, Tom Sexton; assistant secretary, Joe McInerney; treasurer, PJ Brennan; assistant treasurer, Catherine Morgan; PRO, Brian McDonagh; coaching officers, Tommy Hogan and Liam Driscoll; county board delegate, Tom Stackpoole; field co-ordinator, Mick Malone; intermediate selectors, Jason Buckley, Paul O’Loughlin and Pascal Malone.

Ennistymon minors

Ennistymon Minor Hurling Club’s annual general meeting was held recently. The secretary, Joe McInerney, stated that 2012 was the best year the minor hurling club had since it was formed, with teams competing from U-8 to U-16. The U-13s won the Division 3 Shield, the U-14s were beaten in the county final, the U-15s won their championship and the U-16s got into the semi-final.

Joe McInerney paid tribute to all the selectors who helped out with the teams, with special mention going to St Breckan’s players who assisted the club during the year.

Joe McInerney was returned as secretary for the coming year. Many tributes were paid to Paul Ralph, who stepped down as treasurer and he was replaced by Catherine Morgan.

Sixmilebridge minors

The Sixmilebridge Minor Club’s AGM took place in the GAA hall last week. There was a reasonable attendance and those present received reports from the chairman, Adrian Hogan, secretary, Rory Liddane and treasurer, Kieran Keating.

Volunteerism is still very strong within the club from U-6 to minor, along with the running of the club shop. The acknowledgement of such volunteerism was the major theme of the secretary, Rory Liddane’s report, which at the same time contained a lament that the club won no underage championship during the year.

Most of the officers were re-elected, with the exception of the positions of PRO, assistant PRO, registrar and county board delegate.

The four outgoing officers who stood down were Brian Culbert, Pa Sheehan, Lorraine Mulready and Mike Deasy, with these positions filled by Paul Corbett, Aidan McNamara, Gerard Liddane and Adrian Hogan respectively. The position of assistant secretary will be filled at a later meeting.

In relation to team management, all the grades from U-6 to U-12 will have their managements appointed in the new year. At U-14 level, James Hassett and Martin Corry were appointed, while John Lynch was elected as U-16 manager. The positions of U-15 and minor manager will be announced at a later date. The latter role will be filled once the executive and the minor players representative, Alex Morey, finalise this over the coming weeks.

Big year ahead for the Banner

The Banner GAA Club, Ennis held their annual AGM on Friday in the Woodstock Hotel when outgoing chairman, John Dingley, welcomed the large crowd and the many new members in attendance. He expressed his delight at the formation of the Banner juvenile section and the good work being done with the younger players. Banner juvenile chairman, Conal McNulty also gave a report on the juvenile club and spoke of the enormous energy around it.

The treasurer’s report from Bríd Dilleen gave a full financial breakdown, which showed no outstanding debts, followed by a comprehensive secretary’s report from Owen Rynne.

Officers elected on the night were: chairman, Tony Talty; joint vice-chairman, Finbar Coakley and John Walsh; secretary, Owen Rynne; treasurer, Bríd Dilleen; registrar, Pat Collins; child welfare officer, Aideen McCormack; county board representatives, Owen Rynne and Brian Reilly and Irish officer, Domhnal Ó Loingsigh.

Incoming chairman, Tony Talty said he was delighted to take on the big challenge that lies ahead and expressed his wish that the club would continue to promote the playing of the national games in Ennis. He asked all for a big commitment in the coming year.

Danny takes the chair in Broadford

BROADFORD Senior Hurling Club held their annual general meeting in the clubhouse on Thursday last.
Chairman, Andrew O’Connell acknowledged the great work being done by the minor club, camogie club, field development and lotto committees and all promoters. He also paid tribute to all who helped the club throughout the year in any capacity.

Secretary, Kevin Ryan presented a very detailed report on the various activities of the hurling teams, highlighting the senior team been promoted to Division 1 of the Clare Champion Cup.

Treasurer John Durack gave details of financial transactions and urged the members to try and increase the weekly lotto intake.

It was unanimously decided to enforce the membership rules to the full in 2013. Chairman Andrew O’Connell did not seek re election. Many glowing tributes were paid to him for his work over his three-year period in office. Danny Chaplin was elected as chairman of the club.
