New flights announced by Ryanair

RYANAIR is increasing the frequency on some of its sun services this summer.

In a statement this week, the airport said, “The Ryanair additions will see the airline increase its Palma service from two to three flights weekly from May to October, when it will operate on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

“Ryanair will also increase flights to Malaga during the month of July to three times weekly, with the extra flight on Thursdays. The airline will continue to operate twice weekly to Malaga during the peak travel season, with services on Tuesdays and Sundays.”

Welcoming the news, Shannon Airport director Mary Considine said, “This is a welcome boost for the many thousands of people from the west of Ireland that travel for annual sun holidays. The increased frequencies on these routes means that holidaymakers now have greater flexibility in planning their holidays from their local airport.

“With these additional Ryanair services, the new Faro route, the doubling of Bodrum flights and new services into Glasgow, Chicago and Philadelphia, we are looking at appreciable growth on our summer services this year, which is very much welcome for the airport and particularly our passengers.”

The routes were welcomed by Shannon Chamber chief executive, Helen Downes.

“Ryanair’s new summer schedule from Shannon Airport is welcome news and makes planning a holiday to sunny climes so much easier for people in the Mid-West.

“Routes operate in two directions. These additional Ryanair flights and the announcement over recent months of new services to Faro, Scotland and the US, plus additional flights to Turkey, not only offer better options from Shannon but also increased visitor potential for the Shannon region.”

Meanwhile, there was also an emergency landings at Shannon last week. A United Airlines flight from London to Los Angeles diverted to Shannon on February 8 and only flew out on a replacement aircraft on February 10.

An attempt to take off in the original aircraft on the ninth failed due to technical problems.
Only one Shannon flight was affected by the blizzard conditions in the US. The United Airlines flight to Newark due to take off last Saturday was cancelled on Friday.

Passengers were either booked onto the following day’s flights or accommodated on alternative flights via Heathrow.

Both the BA transit flights that were due to fly through Shannon last Saturday were also cancelled.
