ENNIS Musical Society members old and new are coming together this April for an evening of song with A Night at the Musicals.

The society will be back on April 10 in Hotel Woodstock where they will be performing numbers from musicals of all eras for all ages to enjoy.

Expect songs from favourite shows such as Les Miserables, Wicked, Rent, Seussical to name but a few.

The concert comes following the postponement of the society’s 2022 show Legally Blonde until next year due to Covid-19. The society were also unable to put on a show in 2021 because of the pandemic, and their 2020 production was cancelled after just two performances.

Ennis Musical Society chairperson Rachael Culligan tells us they have had a “terrific response” to the plans for the upcoming concert.

“We initially had planned on doing Legally Blonde but with so many members getting Covid, we just felt that we couldn’t manage that scale of rehearsals with so many people missing and so we made the decision to postpone our show until next year.

“We decided to go ahead with a concert which features songs from the West End and Broadway because it gives us a chance to bring lots of our favourite songs from different shows to one stage and it also gives many of our members a chance to showcase their vocal talents because a typical show wouldn’t provide as many opportunities for so many solo performances.”

The show will be a real mix of new and old members of the society. The society put the word out to both former and new members to get involved, with Rachael saying they are thrilled to have so many joining them on the night.

“We have contacted a number of former members who we are delighted to say have agreed to come back for this concert and we are just as excited to say that we have also welcomed a number of new talented performers to our stage.

“I think the last two years have been hard for everyone and people are very excited and enthusiastic at the thought of being on stage again and creating a really wonderful show.”

Ennis Musical Society present A Night At The Musicals at Hotel Woodstock and 8pm on April 10 and tickets are €15 and are available at  https://www.gr8events.ie/sales/?event=1044.
