Musical mix at Sixmilebridge

SIXMILEBRIDGE Folk Club will host an eclectic group of musicians to launch their winter season at the Courthouse next week.

Audiences can expect a heady mix of Cajun, Quebecquois, Irish and maybe even a little bluegrass music from an ensemble that hails from France, Galway and Cork at the Courthouse venue on Saturday, October 13.
The concert features Ray Barron of Two Time Polka (mandolin) with Eileen Healy (vocals) and visiting musician Serge Desunney (French box player).

Accordionist Serge Desaunay is very committed to Quebec and Celtic music and has been for many years. He played with Les Maudzits Français and many other musicians from the world of Quebec music in France.

He is also well loved as a composer of tunes and collaborator in many genres. Meanwhile, Kieran Fahy is a highly regarded fiddler from Tuam, County Galway, who has lived in Belgium and Brittany since the late 1970s.  He has played with many noted Irish musicians and was a founder of the high-profile group Shantalla.

Ray Barron, on mandolin, is greatly respected as a bluegrass and Cajun player, mainly with his group Two Time Polka, while fellow Corkonian Eileen Healy has an eclectic CV of Irish, Balkan, blues and bluegrass music, playing and recording with the best of them and releasing a couple of her own CDs along the way. Ray and Eileen may well be familiar to regulars at the Winter Music Weekend and look forward to playing the Courthouse stage.
The concert starts at 8pm sharp and there is an admission charge on the door.

The Sixmilebridge Folk Club season continues on October 23 with American bluegrass band High Plains Tradition playing at The Mill Bar.
