Miltown man new head of Munster Colleges GAA


Miltown Malbay man Christy Killeen is the new chairman of the Munster colleges GAA body. A long time resident in North Kerry, he is a member of the teaching staff at Tarbert Community College.

Liam Kennedy, a member of the staff at Ard Scoil Rís in Limerick, is the vice-chairman, Michael Forristal, Clonmel continues as secretary with Donal O’Keeffe serving as treasurer. Tom Collum continues at the Munster Colleges servicing officer
Killeen, who is actively involved in Kerry GAA affairs, takes over from Scariff’s Eamonn Moroney who is now chairman of the Munster post-primary schools committee.
The colleges fixtures schedule consists of 18 competitions, nine football and nine hurling, catering for three grades A, B and C and at three levels – senior (U-18½), intermediate (U-16½ ) and junior (U-15).
In the Dr Harty Cup, St Flannan’s will be in group A along with Thurles CBS, De La Salle and Blackwater Community School from Waterford.
St Caimin’s from Shannon will be in group B along with Colaiste Chriost Rí, Templemore and Charleville CBS.
Group C comprises Nenagh CBS, Midleton CBS and Kerry Colleges with Ard Scoil Rís, Waterford Colleges and St Colman’s making up group D.
First round games are set for Wednesday, October 6, with round two on October 20 and round three on November 17. The quarter-finals will take place in January.
There will be two Clare teams in the Corn Ui Mhuiri (senior A football) title race this year. West Clare schools will compete for the first time and they have been included in group B with De La Salle, Macroom, and Intermediate School Killorglin.
St Flannan’s will be in group D with Colaiste na Sceilge and Clonmel CBS
Round one will take place on Wednesday, October 12, with round two on Wednesday, November 10, and round three on Wednesday, November 24. The quarter-finals will be in January.
In the Frewan cup (junior A football), St Flannan’s will play St Brendan’s, Killarney. The first rounds are scheduled for spring 2011.
The same schools will meet in the U-15 A football (Corn Ui Mhorain) first round which is set for October 6.
St Caimin’s will compete in the senior B football championship (Corn an Uachtarain) and they will play Carrigaline Community School in the opening round. Spanish Point will take on Colaiste Choilm with the first rounds set for October 13
St Caimin’s will play Skibbereen in the first round of the U-16½ B football. St Caimin’s will play Middleton in the U-15 B football
In the Dean Ryan Cup (junior A hurling), St Caimin’s will play Dungarvan and Ard Scoil Rís, who will have some Clare players in their panel, will play Blackwater Community school in preliminary round games (September 29) with the winners due to meet in round one when St Flannan’s will take on Midleton CBS on October 13.
In the U-15 ½ A hurling (Corn an Fhaotigh) St Caimin’s and St Flannan’s will clash in the opening round whjile Ard Scoil Rís will play Glanmire.
There will be two Clare schools in the senior B hurling championship (corn Phadraig). Tulla are in group B along with Colaiste Mhire, Youghal and St Augustine’s while St Annes Killaloe are in group C with St Pauls, Dungarvan and Tipperary.
The first rounds will take place on October 6 along with the Harty Cup first rounds.
In the U-16½ B hurling championship Tulla will play Templemore while St Anne’s will take on Rochestown from Cork.
