Marta to go cycling and rafting in Uganda for charity

AN Ennis based mother has taken on the challenge of a lifetime by cycling more than 250 kilometres and also rafting in Uganda later this year. Marta Kubik, originally from Poland but now living in Ennis, will be doing the cycle in November to raise funds for World Vision Ireland.
Next month a fundraiser will be held in Glór in Ennis to support the charity challenge. The fundraiser will be held on Sunday, May 4 featuring music from Los Paddys de las Pampas, Paper Chainz, winners of the Clare Youth Music Awards, and Tommy Nelson.
Speaking about the upcoming cycling challenge, Marta explained, “Last year I was supporting my friend Fr Ger Fitzgerald in his 30 by 30 challenge where he cycled 30 miles every day for 30 days to raise money for Barnardos. This year, after his good example, I decided to challenge myself and raise the money for World Vision Ireland.”
The challenge cycle with World Vision will take Marta to North Rukiga in Uganda and will take place from November 13 until 23. The money she will raise will go towards the communities that she will meet while on the cycle.
While there she will face gruelling days of cycling. On November 15 she will travel from Lake Mburo to Kashare, a nine hour 81 km cycle. The following day she will travel onto Bugongi, taking eight hours to travel 66 km. Then it is onto Rwabukoba, a 42 km cycle lasting seven hours. On November 18 its onto Ishare, a 63 km journey which will see Marta cycle for eight hours. And on the last day of the challenge, she will travel to Buhoma for a 63m of rafting lasting seven hours.
“The charity I have chosen to support is a very worthy cause and I appreciate any support in helping me to raise funds for this organisation,” she said.
Tickets for the fundraiser in Glór are available in advance from the Fiesta House, O’Connell Street, Ennis and Suas Café, Ennis. They will also be available on the door on the night.
