Lisdoon gig for Yngve & The Innocent

YNGVE & The Innocent will be returning from performing in London to play a special Hallowe’en headline show at The Roadside Tavern Lisdoonvarna, on Saturday as part of their upcoming Irish tour.

The band may be performing at Hallowe’en but there is certainly nothing scary about critics’ reviews with Yngve & The Innocent described as slotting in “seamlessly alongside the major names in contemporary Americana, from M Ward and Conor Oberst to Butch Walker and Jenny Lewis”.
German born and raised in Sligo, Yngve (pronounced Ing-vuh) has been simmering under the skin of the music industry since 2004. Growing up in rural Sligo in the ’80s, his dad’s weekly blues sessions fuelled his interest in music. Fast-forward to adulthood and young Yngve has, amongst numerous headline appearances both solo and with a full band, shared bills with acts as diverse as Deathray Trebuchet, Jape, Katell Keineg, The Pipettes and Paul Weller.
His debut album Tell Men This, featuring a full band, guest musicians and cover art by Dublin artist and musician Bennie Reilly was selected by Jump.ie as one of the Best 3 Irish Indie Albums Of 2008 buying 100 copies to send out to friends and clients in the marketing industry.
The album track Little Boy was also selected by Irish music magazine Hot Press to have a video made for it by the famous New York Tisch School for the Arts. This video was subsequently nominated in the Best Solo Male category in the 2009 IMTV Video Music Awards and has also been featured by Dave Fanning on his RTÉ television show The 11th Hour.
Moving to London in 2008, Yngve began making a name for himself in the London scene with his new touring band The Innocent featuring Ned Cartwright on keys, bass player Simon Brown and Yngve’s brother Demian Wieland on drums. Regular shows in the famous Water Rats and Brixton’s Windmill Venue, not to mention two four-week residencies in East London’s George Tavern, have quickly seen the quartet meld into a formidable live outfit.
The start of 2009 saw Yngve reunite with album producer Eoin Bailey in London to record with The Innocent alongside guest appearances from previous line-ups.
Having played over 120 shows since the start of 2009, they are once more on the road in support of their new release Nothing Was Delivered, which was recorded in a three day live session in Dublin towards the end of 2009.
As well as performing in Lisdoonvarna, the tour will also see them play in Letterkenny, Wexford, Belfast, Mullingar, Galway, Cork, Sligo and three shows in Dublin including a set at the National College of Art and Design (NCAD) and an acoustic performance in Dublin’s newest live venue The Workman’s Club.
