THERE is a new Miss Clare and this year the title went to Lauren Guilfoyle from Feakle, who will represent her county at the Miss Ireland competition in Dublin in June.
The 17-year-old was announced as Miss Clare 2013 at the annual Miss Clare event in association with Miss Ireland, which was held at The Auburn Lodge Hotel on March 14 last.

The event was organised this year by Miss Clare 2012 Hazel McMahon, with the help of Tess Purcell.

You’re a Star winner Leanne Moore was the MC on the night and interviewed the 14 contestants and kept the crowd entertained. The judges, Tess Purcell, Coast Model Management; Liz Greehy of Stylebible.ie and current Mr Gay Clare Timmie Murphy, had the very tough job of deciding on a winner out of the beautiful contestants.

Ms McMahon gave a speech reminiscing about the amazing year she had and the many doors that have opened for her before she handed over the sash and crown.

Speaking on the night Lauren said, “Winning Miss Clare was absolutely amazing. To be honest, I was shocked and ecstatic at even making the top five, not to mind winning. Being crowned Miss Clare means a lot me. It’s such an honour to be able to represent my county on the national stage at Miss Ireland in June as well as representing my family and friends. I can’t wait to get started on my official reign as Miss Clare and I am really looking forward to the three-day event in Dublin in June where I hope to make Clare proud.”

Supporting Lauren on the night was her mother, Jackie; father, Tommy; brother, Gary and sister, Jodi. They were joined by both her grannies, auntie Dee, godmother, Martina and a strong contingent from college.

“Friends from as far north as Donegal and as far east as Kilkenny came to support me as well as my friends from home, Cora, Katie, Fiona and Aoife. I hope to see them all in Dublin for Miss Ireland in June,” Lauren said.

Kate McGlennon was the first runner-up, while Aisling Duffy was the second runner-up on the night.
