The Lonesome West is the third play in the Leenane Trilogy. “It’s a comedy – a very black comedy and extremely funny. You find yourself laughing at the most inappropriate happenings. The play has four characters, two brothers Valene and Coleman Connor who lead stunted and frustrated lives played by Jackie Scanaln and Hugh Gallager. Fr Welsh, the local priest who is constantly having crises of faith, played by Joe Varden and Girleen Kelleher, a schoolgirl who sells poitín to the brothers, played by Ailbhe McMahon,” explained a spokesperson for Ennis Players.
Geraldine Greene’s production will be taking to the roads after their glór performances, and taking part on the festival circuit at Doonbeg, Scariff, Ballyduff, Castleisland, Rossmore, Claremorris and Glenamaddy, after which the Players hope to have qualified for the RTE Open All Ireland Finals in Athlone in May.
