Kilrush gardaí on high alert

Gardaí in Kilrush are said to be “on high alert” for reprisals following a knife attack in the town last Friday night that left five local men requiring hospital treatment.

The attack occurred in Place de Plouzane at approximately 1.30am and it was revealed the five men sustained “serious injuries” in the incident.
A garda spokesperson said that the matter remains “under investigation” and when asked if there was concern about reprisals following the attack, she acknowledged, “we would be on high alert”.
The injured men are understood to be from the Kilrush area and the majority of them are aged in their 20s.  All five of the men were treated for their injuries at the Mid-Western Regional Hospital in Limerick and have since been released.
The Clare Champion understands that at the time of going to print gardaí had yet to receive a statement of complaint from any of the injured men. Anyone with information in relation to this incident is asked to contact Kilrush Garda Station on 065 9080550.
