Kilrush captaincy for Geraldine

THE annual general meeting of the ladies’ section at Kilrush Golf Club was held last week and Geraldine Burke was installed as captain of the ladies’ club for 2011. Other officers elected for 2011 were vice-captain, Mary O’Sullivan; president, Jean Lorrigan; ex officio, Imy Kerrigan; secretary, Loretta Maher; treasurer, Anne Hogan; handicap secretary, Anne Brennan; competition secretary, Mary Young; committee, Stephanie Roughan, Mary Lyons, Ailish Lorrigan and Margaret Donnelly.
The annual general meeting of the men’s section and the joint club annual meeting will take place on Friday. Mass for deceased members will be celebrated in the clubhouse on Thursday at 8pm.

Ennis

KITTY Morris has won the golfer of the year award in the Ennis ladies section. Other prize winners are Bridget Hoey (ILGU silver spoon), Monica Finnerty (silver medal), Jean Considine (bronze medal) and Mary McMahon (September brooch).
Last week’s ladies seniors outing was won by Mary Colton, Alice Darch and Phil Butler with 52 points from Nora Kelly, Kathleen Frehill and Susan O’Brien on 48 points. In third spot with 47 points were Ann Casey, Patricia Kennedy and Oonagh Fitzpatrick and they were followed by Catherine Holland, Bríd Kelly and Teresa Felle with 46 points.

Shannon

IN the Wednesday turkey singles at Shannon, Tony Connolly was first past the post with 38 points. Tony had one to spare from Ricardo Pino. Michael Hayes (Limerick) was in third place with 36 points, while Darren Keane captured his second turkey of the season when winning the gross with 32 points.
Despite the conditions, some play was possible in the singles turkey vouchers at the weekend. Tom Kelleher was victorious with five up, Chris Harrigan was second with four up, while Padraig Cahillane won the gross with one down.
There will be a men’s 15-hole singles turkey vouchers competition this weekend, while the ladies will have a 12-hole turkey competition.
The joint club annual general meeting takes place next Tuesday in the clubhouse at 8pm, while Santa will visit the club on Sunday, December 19 from 4.30pm to 7.30pm.

East Clare

AT the recent ladies annual general meeting, Siobhán Shanahan was installed as lady captain for 2011. For good measure, Siobhán featured among the prize winners in the club’s major competitions. She teamed up with Breeda O’Loughlin to win the club fourball matchplay, while she also won the silver spoon and silver medal.
Other award winners were Tara Whelan (golfer of the year), Deirdre Cooney (bronze medal), Ann McInerney (masters), Leslie O’Flynn (singles matchplay) and Mary Bugler (novice matchplay).
Despite the frosty weather, round one of the winter league is also completed. The early leaders are last year’s winning team of Ger Hogan, Liam Nolan, Danny Minogue, Joe Fitzgerald, Catherine Minogue and Terry Mulvihill. They are being pursued by the team of Ciaran Sheehan, Sean Ahern, Martin Quinn, Flan Mullane, Helen Ahern and Peggy Ryan.
The annual general meeting of the joint club has been rescheduled for next Wednesday at 8pm due to the bereavement of past president, Joe O’Shaughnessy.

Spanish Point

THE annual general meeting of Spanish Point Golf Club’s parent club will take place this Saturday at 8.30pm in the clubhouse. Officers will present their annual reports before the officials and committee for 2011 will be elected.
On the course, there will be a modified fourball this weekend and timesheets are in the clubhouse (065 7084198). The men’s Christmas hampers will be played for on Saturday and Sunday week.

Gort

THERE will be an 18-hole fourball hampers competition at Gort on Saturday and Sunday, while the open singles will continue on Monday. The ladies’ mini hampers, a 13-hole Stableford competition, will take place on Sunday.
The annual meeting of the parent club will take place in the clubhouse next Monday at 8pm and will be preceded by mass at 7.30pm.

Ennis Seniors

THE format of this week’s Ennis Seniors competition was a team of four event with two scores counting. The winners, with 75 points, were Dickie Pyne, Michael Kenny, Ollie Kenneally and Pat McGuire from Sean O’Gorman, John Whyte, John Keane (ESB) and Ned Ryan, who also returned 75 points.
In third place, a point behind, were Tom Neville, John Stack, Michael Connolly and George Dilger, followed by Padraig Ryan, Joe O’Brien, Tom McGrath and Joe Joe Keane on 72 points, with Tommy Purcell, Peadar Cosgrove, Luke Coote and Tom Fox fifth with 71 points.

Pitch and putt

THE annual general meeting of the Clare Road Pitch and Putt Club took place at the weekend at which Tony Clancy was elected captain for the coming season.
The officers elected were chairman, Denis McElligott; vice-chairman, Joseph McElligott; secretary, Niall Reynolds; treasurer, Michael Kerin; competition secretary, Kenneth Kerin; assistant competition secretary, Noel Cuddihy; PRO, Noel Cuddihy; registrar, Denis McElligott; juvenile officers, Kenneth Kerin and Niall Seery; committee members, Gareth Kerin and Niall Seery and county board delegates, Tony Clancy and Niall Seery.
