Kilmurry Ibrickane/North Clare take overall title at Lissycasey


Fergus Athletic Club hosted the Patrick O’Dea open cross country and 5km road races in Lissycasey, on the lands of JJ Sheehan, on Sunday. There were big entries in all juveniles races from U-7 to U-16.

In the ladies’ 5,000m road race, Sharon Rynne, Kilmurry Ibrickane/North Clare recorded a great victory in 20.46 with Laura Egan, Kilmihil, second and Patricia McCarthy, St Cronan’s, third, with Kilmurry Ibrickane/North Clare A and B teams in first and second with Fergus AC third.
Kenneth Rodgers, St John’s, was victorious in the mens 5,000m race in 16.24 with Michael Shannon, Kilnaboy, second and Jake O’Regan, St John’s, in third spot with St John’s retaining the senior men’s team title and the Bernie Meaney Shield ahead of Ennis Track and Kilmurry Ibrickane/North Clare.
The novice title was won by Michael Shannon, Kilnaboy, in 17.08 with the Patrick O’Dea Cup going to St John’s, ahead of the host club, Fergus AC and St Mary’s.
The cup for the best overall club went to Kilmurry Ibrickane/North Clare with 272 points with second spot going to, St John’s on 188 points, third to Ennis Track on 167 points and fourth were the host club, Fergus AC, on 165points.
In the juvenile competitions, there were some outstanding contests. The leading local male Fergus AC athlete title went to Anthony Kelly with Christina Hill taking the ladies title.
