Kilkishen and Corofin to contest decider

Kilkishen and Corofin will contest the final of the county intermediate camogie championship following their wins over Truagh and St Joseph’s at the weekend. Both games were very close with Corofin winning by the minimum margin while Kilkishen had to go to extra time to overcome Truagh. The final will take place this Saturday.

 

 

Corofin 0-9   St Jospeh’s 0-8

DEFENCES dominated in this evenly contested tie, the result of which was in doubt up to the final whistle.
Corofin led by the minimum margin at half time, 0-4 to 0-3, on a day when the majority of scores came from placed balls with Claire Commane (Corofin) and Louise Woods (St Joseph’s) on target.
The winners had their best players in Muireann Kelleher, Brenda O’Donoghue and goalkeeper Carmel Tierney.
Sara O’Brien, Orla Doolaghty, Louise Woods and Sarah Hoey did well for the Doora-Barefield outfit.

Kilkishen 1-6   Truagh 1-3

KILKISHEN edged out Truagh with a goal in extra time to reach the final after a very tough, physical game, which proved to be a fantastic evening’s entertainment for all on the sideline.
Kilkishen were first on the scoreboard with Sarah Donnellan pointing in the opening minute. Further points followed from Caroline Sheedy and Donnellan while Truagh’s only score of the half was a goal from Caroline Lynch, leaving the teams level at 0-3 to 1-0 at half time.
Each side had a point in the third quarter with Marie Collins (Kilkishen) and Niamh Power exchanging scores.
Both the goalies, Claire Baker and Caroline Craughan, brought off some fantastic saves to keep the teams level.
In the final two minutes of normal time, points were exchanged with Kate Lynch putting Kilkishen ahead, only for Niamh Guinnane to respond for Truagh.

In the second period, Michelle Caulfield levelled the game again before the decisive score came when Nora Murphy goaled for the winners after good work by Noelle McNamara.

Intermediate Shield

Clarecastle and Scariff will contest the final of the intermediate shield after their weekend victories over Whitegate and Ogonnelloe

Clarecastle 1-11   Whitegate 2-4

WHITEGATE got off to a great start with two points from Aisling Treacy and they added a goal when Susan Fahy found the net in the fifth minute.
Clarecastle got on the scoreboard with a point from a free from Sharon O’Loughlin in the ninth minute.
Aisling Treacy and Sharon O’Loughlin traded points before Carina Roseingrave hit the target for the Magpies. When the half-time whistle sounded Whitegate were 1-3 to 0-4 ahead.
Early second-half points from Sharon O’Loughlin brought the teams level before the respective freetakers, Aisling Treacy and Sharon O’Loughlin, traded points. 
Sharon O’Loughlin edged Clarecastle ahead when she pointed from a free in the 24th minute.
Jane Scanlon, who was introduced as a substitute for Yasmin Blake, had Clarecastle’s only goal of the game in the 25th minute.
This was quickly cancelled out when Whitegate’s Triona Kelly goaled to leave two points between the teams with a minute of ordinary time left.
The final scores of the game came from Clarecastle’s Jennifer Costelloe when she pointed twice in the closing minutes.
