Jobs boost from Dell

ALMOST two-and-a-half years after the company announced savage job losses, which would rock the Mid West’s economy, Dell this week announced the creation of new positions at their Limerick plant.

The company is to open a Cloud research and development centre in Dublin along with a solution centre in Limerick. Recruitment is underway at both sites for software engineers, IT architects, engineers and developers.
It is expected that 150 people will be recruited across both sites in the next two years.
The Dell Solution Centre in Limerick, the first to be launched internationally, is part of a global network of 22 centres with extensive customer engagement capabilities designed to give access to Dell technology and solutions experts.
At the centre, Dell representatives will work with customers to help them make better use of their technology budgets so they can invest less on managing their infrastructure and more on technology innovation to grow their business.
New employees at the centre will be involved in research & development, IP development, IT architecture and engineering as they engage in proof of concept testing for customers.
In addition, the new centre will play a leading role in data management, identifying solutions to meet the challenges caused by the explosive growth of data online.
Taoiseach Enda Kenny welcomed the arrival of the new jobs.
“Ireland has become a focal point of global information technology development and Dell’s decision to locate new strategic resources in Ireland will help us to realise our ambition of becoming a centre of excellence for Cloud.
“The calibre of Dell people and the nature of their work in Ireland are consistent with our ambition to be a knowledge-driven economy.
“We are very pleased to see continued momentum in this direction, especially the creation of new jobs in this vital sector of our economy,” he said.
Jeff Clarke, vice-chairman, global operations and end user computing solutions, said, “Today’s announcement underscores Dell’s evolution to a services and solutions company with broad-based capabilities and expertise that helps customers succeed.
“The investments in Ireland are central to our broader strategy of establishing leadership in Cloud computing and our commitment to help customers innovate and drive business results.
“We are very excited
about these new facilities and see Ireland as an ideal home for our Cloud-based activities.
“I would like to recognise the support of the IDA and in helping to bring this development to fruition,” he said.
