A 31-year-old man, charged with the murder of a law student from Ballyea, is to be tried in the Central Criminal Court.
At this week’s sitting of Ennis District Court, Superintendent Peter Duff pointed out that the Director of Public Prosecutions had consented to the trial of Joe Heffernan (31) of Cappabeg, Barefield, in the Central Criminal Court.
Mr Heffernan is charged with the murder of Eoin Ryan (21) at Cappabeg, Barefield on June 27 last. He is currently on remand at the Central Mental Hospital at Dundrum, Dublin, and his presence was excused from court on Monday.
Superintendent Duff outlined that the Book of Evidence will be ready for September 23 and Judge John O’Neill remanded the accused in custody to appear before Ennis District Court on September 2.
