Clanwilliam 34 St Senan’s 3

POSSESSION may be nine-tenths of the law but it’s what you do with it that counts. Unfortunately, it was a lesson learned by St Senan’s when in a game where they had the lion’s share of possession and territorial advantage, they ended up at the receiving end of a 31-point defeat.

The game started badly for Senan’s when, after just two minutes, Clanwilliam turned over possession in their own half to score a breakaway try. Senan’s dominated for the next 20 minutes, driving Clanwilliam deep into their own half, where their forwards took control of scrums creating a number of scoring chances but failed to convert into points.
In the 25th minute, Clanwilliam turned over Senan’s possession and broke through for their second try, which was closely followed by a penalty conversion, which extended the home side’s lead to 17-0.
Once again Senan’s showed great character to regain the upper hand and push Clanwilliam back deep into their own half. This commitment was rewarded with the last kick of the half when Ger McNamara converted a penalty to give Senan’s their first and what transpired to be their only points of the game.
Senan’s continued with their attacking style of play in the second half but were punished as Clanwilliam broke out of their own half on two occasions, adding a try each time to take an unassailable 29-3 lead.
Clanwilliam closed out the game with a final-minute try to run out 34-3 winners.
Next Sunday, Senan’s play host to league leaders Cashel in Jimmy Slattery Park at 2.30pm.

St Senan’s: David Dunne, Barry Murphy, Ronan O’Callaghan, Declan Collins, Brian Collins, Gerard McNamara, Darragh McCoy, Ian Fitzgerald, Gary Crowe, Paul O’Halloran, Aidan O’Callaghan, Aaron Skerritt, Robert Hegarty, Fergal Lawlor, Timmy Larkin.

Replacements: Tony O’Brien, David Webb, Mark Butler, Declan Coughlan and Chris Sloan.
