Government Extends Covid-19 Restrictions

A further three weeks of restrictions to tackle the spread of Covid-19 has been announced by the Taoiseach this afternoon.

It follows a meeting of the National Public Health Emergency team, with the decision taken to extend the current restrictions which had been due to expire this Sunday.

It means that measures such as a 2km restriction for exercise from your home, a ban on all unnecessary travel and the closure of bars will all remain in place until at least May 5th.

It is expected that a further update will be issued closer to that time with a view to possibly beginning to lift restrictions, but the Taoiseach admitted that will be dependent on the number of active cases on that date.
