Gold rush fever strikes

A PRE-Christmas surge in sales of Ennis Gold, the town’s gift voucher scheme, has begun this week, according to Ennis Chamber.
Already this year, the Ennis Chamber project has brought in over €70,000 in sales, with the Gold vouchers being accepted at up to 90 local shops and businesses.
President of Ennis Chamber, Guy Flouch said both companies and individuals are opting for Ennis Gold as the most efficient, and recession-proof, gift option this season.
“Every time you buy one of these vouchers, you are ensuring that money is spent with local retailers and ensures that the revenue and employment remains within the local economy. Shop local and save local jobs,” he commented.
He explained that the vouchers are proving popular with local companies seeking to give gifts to staff or clients.
“Apart from being accepted in a wide range of outlets, to suit all tastes, they are attractive in that companies can give gifts up to €250 to each employee, without incurring benefit-in-kind tax liability,” he said.
Mr Flouch also stressed the international online dimension of the scheme.
“Members of the Clare diaspora, currently living in London or Boston or Sydney, can buy the vouchers for local residents online. So, though thousands of miles away, they can still shop in the streets of Ennis,” he said.
A wide range of businesses are taking part, from ladies’ wear and gift stores, through to beauty products and from toys and confectionery to eating out. A full list of participating stores is available at www.ennischamber.ie.
Ennis Chamber CEO, Rita McInerney, said that an Ennis Gold voucher is “really a thoughtful gift”.
“It will solve many of your difficult gift decisions, whether you’re seeking to provide something thoughtful to staff, friends or loved ones or as a simple thank-you present. The gift gives the person receiving it a wide range of decisions as to what to buy. The vouchers can be purchased at face value in attractive gift wallets,” she commented.
The vouchers are available for purchase from the offices of Ennis Chamber or from The Irish Shop.com [formerly Record Rack], on Lower Market Street or online at www.ennischamber.ie. Internet purchasers, who may live abroad, will be able to choose to have the voucher posted directly to the address of the person receiving the gift.
