Avenue United struck twice in a three minute spell to book their place in the Last 16 of the Munster Junior Cup.

With the sides deadlocked at 1-1 after 75 minutes of action, Philip Talty and Dylan Casey’s goals ensured that Clare would be represented in the Last 16 of the competition.

Avenue named an unchanged side from the one that beat Yellowstone in the FAI Junior Cup the weekend prior. They looked the sharper side in the opening exchanges, dominating possession and territory although they found Youghal a tough side to break down.

That was until the half hour mark when Thomas Hehir opened the scoring with a well taken goal. However, despite their dominance, Youghal, who entered the game as firm underdogs, struck back to level the contest.

David Russell’s side continued to pile forward as the home side sought to break down a stubborn Youghal outfit. With 75 minutes on the clock, Avenue found the breakthrough they had been searching for as substitute Philip Talty finished a well worked move to give his side the lead.

The result was put beyond all doubt three minutes later when Dylan Casey’s fierce free kick whacked off the upright and crossed the line as Avenue picked up another positive cup result.

Avenue United: James Tierney, Cullen McCabe, Conor Mullen, Dylan Casey, Jamie Roche, Steven Jordan, Alan Roche, Eoghan Thynne, Mark Roche, Thomas Hehir, Eliaz Kunz. Subs: Philip Talty for Eliaz Kunz, Dylan Barry for Alan Roche, Shane Brown for Jamie Roche, Gary Roche for Thomas Hehir, Mikey Dinan for Eoghan Thynne.
