Frosty weather conditions a spoilsport for golfers

Inclement weather again proved a spoilsport for golfers at the weekend with most of the county’s courses closed due to frost.
With better conditions forecast for the coming weeks, club officials across the county are confident that competitions will go ahead as scheduled.

Shannon

New captains Pascal Regan and Mary O’Brien drove-in to office at Shannon last week in front of a large attendance.
Shannon’s senior cup manager, Darren Keane, is certainly a man in early season form. By winning last Wednesday’s singles, he was figuring in the winner’s list for the third competition in succession. Darren just edged out Hugh Heaney thanks to a better back six, both returning 37 points.
This weekend’s men’s competition is a 15-hole fourball. Men and lady members are asked to note that the winter leagues commence over the weekend of January 21 to 23.
On the social scene, the ever-popular Friday night quiz commences this Friday, starting at 8.30pm, with captain Pascal Regan as quiz master.

Spanish Point

Once more the frost affected the playing of the singles hamper competition, which has been re-arranged for Saturday and Sunday, January 22 and 23 and a timesheet is in the clubhouse.
In the weekend’s fourball competition, Michael Hillery (14) and Joseph O’Rourke (22) were the winners with 47 points from Brendan Reddan (16) and Tony Crowley (17) with 43 points.
The seniors’ open will continue on Tuesdays while the open singles will continue on Thursdays.

Lahinch

The mixed hampers competition, which was cancelled due to the inclement weather conditions, has been re-scheduled for this weekend at Lahinch and a timesheet is in operation.

Ennis Seniors

The winners of the team modified scramble for Ennis seniors last week were Fergie O’Donoghue, Paddy Lane, Larry O’Farrelly and Pat Cusack with 67 points. They had one to spare over Bernard Hanrahan, Paddy Cahill and John Keane, with third spot filled by Paul Higgins, Tim McAllister and Vincent Gardiner, who also scored 66 points. In fourth spot with 64 points were Brendan Colton, Michael Kenny and Peadar Cosgrove.
