Focusing attention on a variety of learning issues

WICKED Angels Theatre Company are bringing their production, I’m not ADHD… I’m Bold, to the Courthouse Gallery in Ennistymon on May 2.

The play was written by Georgina McKevitt and Jacinta Sheerin, while it is directed by Veronica Coburn. It will be performed by Clare Barrett and Jacinta Sheerin.

In this play, Ms McKevitt and Ms Sheerin revisit the heart of their work – the relationships between women, friendship and the inherent comedy of life.

I’m not ADHD… I’m Bold draws on the writers’ experiences of working in schools as drama facilitators. Both met many different characters in the education sector and were interested in the fact that the levels of ADHD are recognisably on the rise and many people are affected by it, both adults and children.

In I’m not ADHD… I’m Bold, Dana, a primary school teacher with ADD is forced to attend therapy following a string of events involving a boy with ADHD, a milk carton and some very strong language. Ingrid, a dramatherapist, is now single and detached in every way. She requires TLC but she is just about to get a smack of OCD and PMT.

Reviewing the play in the Irish Theatre Magazine, Sheena Madden wrote, “To interpret I’m not ADHD… I’m Bold as an authoritative reflection of the myriad of learning disabilities and psychological disorders that exist would be to take it too seriously. But when viewed as a comedic commentary on the fact that everybody these days seems to have ‘something wrong with them’, the manic humour of writers Georgina McKevitt and Jacinta Sheerin shines through.”
