First victory recorded for St Joseph’s

St Joseph’s  2-4    Whitegate  1-3
ON a day of sunshine and torrential rain, St Joseph’s recorded their first win of the Intermediate Camogie Championship against Whitegate in Scariff.

St Joseph’s started off well and took the lead after five minutes. From the puck-out they were on the attack and from a dropping ball, netted their first goal. After this, Whitegate came more into the game. Whitegate’s first score came at the 15th minute from centre-forward Triona Kelly, who found the net.

 

Despite great defending by Whitegate, especially Anita Forde and Orla Burke, St Joseph’s added two further points to lead at half time, 1-3 to 1-0.

Whitegate were first on the scoreboard in the second half, a point by corner-forward Lisa Donoghue. A St Joseph’s goal in the 20th minute put them in front and they held this lead to the finish.

Clarecastle/Ballyea  4-15    Wolfe Tones 0-8

CLARECASTLE/Ballyea had a convincing start to the intermediate championship in Newmarket-on-Fergus on Monday with a 4-15 to 0-8 victory over Wolfe Tones.

From the throw-in, Clarecastle had the upperhand and with five minutes on the clock, Sharon Quinn struck for a goal and a point to open their account.

Clarecastle/Ballyea were also on top in defence with the half-back line of Sinead Reidy, Jane Scanlon and Marie Lynch in fine form.

Diandra O’Connell and Sharon O’Loughlin added points before Wolfe Tones hit their opening point. They immediately hit a second point before Sharon O’Loughlin and Sharon Quinn replied for Clarecastle-Ballyea.

The winners had a purple patch for the final ten minutes of the half with 2-7 tacked on to just two points in reply for Wolfe Tones, leaving the half time score at 3-12 to 0-4.

The second half was a much tighter affair with Wolfe Tones battling hard trying to reduce the lead.
