Hermitage B won 4-2 on penalties

Hermitage won the first cup of the season in a hard fought encounter with Shannon Olympic B in the third division league cup final.
There was very little to separate the sides in the first half, which turned out to be a midfield battle in which goal scoring chances were very limited.
The second half was a lot more entertaining with some very nice football by both teams. Olympic nearly took the lead when Ryan Camper hit the crossbar direct from a corner while Hermitage had a chance at the other end when their striker was one on one with the keeper but his lob just went inches wide. Towards the end off normal time, with both teams pushing hard to get the winning goal, Olympic had some great chances. Camper had a great shot saved brilliantly by the Hermitage goalkeeper, Kevin Ruane. Olympic pushed forward and Ruane made another great save from a header from Joe Brennan.
Karl Ashveld then had a shot scrambled away by Ruane. The last chance in normal time fell to Olympic who had a free kick right in front of the goal at the edge of the box but it was blasted well over.
Extra time failed to separate the teams and it went to a penalty shoot-out. Olympic missed their first two penalties while the Dobbins brothers Sean and Brendan scored for the winners to put them in a commanding position. Clinton Keane and Chris O’Riordan were the other goal scorers for the winners. After the game, captain Cathal Keane accepted the cup from Clare League official Jim Madden.
