THE Department of the Environment will shortly sanction Clare County Council’s proposal to accept a tender for the construction of a new training centre for Clare County Fire and Rescue Service in Ennis.
According to Minister of State Tony Killeen, approval is being issued to the council to accept a tender from Thomas Nolan and Sons, Newport, County Tipperary for the construction of the facility at Ennis Fire Station.
The project involves the provision of a new training centre with the facilities necessary to cater for today’s modern fire service.
The total cost of €470,000 is being grant-aided in full by the Department of the Environment and Local Government.
“This marks another important milestone in the Government’s commitment to the Clare fire service and marks a further step in the ongoing programme of developing and modernising the fire service nationwide.
“Co-operation between the department and Clare County Council has resulted in substantial enhancement of the capacity of the fire service in Clare,” said Minister Killeen.
Welcoming the news, chief fire officer Adrian Kelly said, “The fire training centre will further enhance the high level of service provided by Clare County Fire and Rescue Service.”
