FF cumainn amalgamate under new structures

A NEW structure and team have been put in place for the Fianna Fáil party in the Ennis area.
At a meeting of the grass roots of the party in Ennis on Monday night, a new unifying structure, bringing together all six Ennis area Fianna Fail cumainn, was adopted. New officers were elected to lead this new Ennis Branch, which is being called Comhairle Baile na h-Inse Fianna Fáil.
The branches that have amalgamated are Ennis Number 1 Cumann (All Ennis Urban-East), Sean McEntee Cumann (Lifford Area), Margaret Pearse Cumann, Eamon de Valera Cumann (Turnpike/Kilrush Road Area), The Dr Hillery Cumann (All Ennis Urban-West) and the Loughville Cumann (Lahinch Road/Shanaway area).
Garrett Greene is the chairman of the new branch, with Joe Reidy his second-in-command as secretary of the cumann. Garrett polled well in the hotly contested Ennis West constituency last year without taking a seat. Son of former mayor, Raymond Greene, Garrett works for Ennis medical staffing company, TTM Healthcare. His previous studies in politics and public administration and ongoing legal studies equip him with excellent skills to grasp and deal with issues on a range of fronts.
Former town councillor and Mayor of Ennis, Joe Reidy had family commitments preventing him from contesting last year’s elections. Many in the party are hoping that Joe will return to contest elections in the future.
The meeting was also attended by the party’s regional organiser, Jackie Lally from Galway, which gave local party members an opportunity for feedback to party leadership.
A number of speakers at the meeting expressed frustration with unbalanced coverage of the corrective action Government has taken to ensure solvent banking and to balance public finances in the face of worldwide economic shocks. Views were expressed that particular broadcast and print media at a national level, whom it was felt were propagandising against the Government and the public interest, were not being answered loudly enough. Chairman Garrett Greene concurred with this view and will escalate the matter further within the party in coming days.
