A PERFORMANCE by an Irish dancing group from Poland promises to be one of the highlights at this year’s Clarinbridge Arts Festival.
Despite the troupe’s name, Galway ZTI, its members originate in Bedzin between Wroclaw and Krakow. The group of eight dancers are dedicated to the performance of traditional Irish dance at Feisanna, festivals, workshops, celebrations and corporate events.
In making their first trip to Ireland, the members felt it fitting that Galway should be the group’s first destination.
This Saturday night the group will display their skills in Clarinbridge as part of arts festival’s ongoing series of events.
Officially established in June 2006 in Bedzin, the young dancers decided to call themselves Galway ZTI because they consider Galway to be the cultural and artistic capital of Ireland.
The performers studied under Shane McAvinchey, originally from Nenagh, who toured with Riverdance and is now based in Munich at the dance academy, Rince Tir na nÓg.
Galway ZTI have a lifetime achievement award from the city of Bedzin for achievements in the field of artistic creation, protection and promotion of culture.
At 9.30pm, the dancers will perform at Sherry’s and various venues throughout Clarinbridge and at 10.30pm at Raftery’s Rest.
