Ennistymon U-21s should edge win

Car Tourismo Banner

Twelve months ago, Ennistymon approached the U-21 A football final confident of, at the very least, competing with Cratloe for most of the hour.

It didn’t pan out that way and, following an exhibition of free-flowing Cratloe football, they won their first title at that level, 2-19 to 3-6. It’s a tribute to Ennistymon’s resolve however that they have made it back to Cusack Park for another crack at winning an U-21 championship.
It’s also a mark of their consistency. Three years ago, Ennistymon defeated Kilmurry-Ibrickane 4-4 to 1-9 in Miltown Malbay. Seán McConigley (2-0), Martin Barry and Tadhg Malone netted four goals between them to help their side to a coveted minor title.
It has been almost an equally eventful time for Lissycasey. Just last weekend, their senior team ensured they will be playing top grade football in 2011 when they defeated O’Curry’s in the relegation play-off final.
Of more relevance, however, is the fact that Lissycasey won the minor A title in Kilmihil 12 months ago. They defeated Ennistymon in that game in damp conditions and a large rump of that team will feature this weekend.
Ennistymon will look to McGonigley, Ronan Linnane, Danny Rouine and Cathal Malone to inspire them this weekend, while players like Martin O’Connor, Enda Finnucane and Matt O’Shea will need to produce their best if Lissycasey are to prevail. Lissycasey will be without Seán Hayes who was red carded in their semi-final win over Miltown. Ennistymon beat Cratloe in the other semi-final in a reversal of the previous year’s result.
A win on Sunday will represent a huge boost for whoever prevails. Ennistymon’s experience from last year should drive them on and they should be narrowly ahead come the 60th minute in Cusack Park on Sunday. The game will throw in at 1.30pm.
