Ennis RFC 14

Cobh 5

Ennis RFC booked their place in the Pan Munster semi-final after a strong display against Cobh Pirates.
Conditions were perfect in Lees Road as Ennis and Cobh locked horns for the second time in this competition. Much like the last game there was very little to separate them with both teams ferocious in defence.
After some strong defensive work, big carries from the Ennis pack saw the hosts pile on the pressure resulting in a penalty, which Odhrán Flynn duly dispatched.
Luke Kennedy was sin binned after referee Michael Reidy adjudged him to have made a dangerous tackle. Ennis showed no sign of easing up regardless of being a player down and were next to score with another well struck penalty from Flynn.
When Kennedy returned, Ennis brought some lovely variety to their play. Powerful carries from Michael Sweeney, Cillian McInerney and Mathew Jordan Allen created a great platform for Seán Queally to unleash the backs.
Slick hands from David Moses and Andrew Cahir Whelan saw Luke Kennedy away down the wing. With Ennis 5m out from the Cobh line, Jacob Cassen-Rennie dived over for the score. This helped Ennis lead 11-0 at half time.
Ennis started the second half slowly and after spilling a lineout 5m from their own line, Cobh capitalised and grabbed a try.
This score seemed to galvanise Ennis. Some exceptional tackling from John Sweeney and Luke Kennedy shut down Cobh’s attack and Odhrán Flynn began to pull the strings for the Clare side.
The Ennis replacements made their presence felt and Cobh conceded another penalty with five minutes to go. Up stepped Ennis Captain Odhrán Flynn to kick the vital three points, which made this a two score game.
Ennis held on as they now face Rugbaí Chorca Dhuibhne of Dingle in the Pan Munster Semi-final this Saturday at 1.30pm in Abbeyfeale. The group are hoping for plenty of support to help them over the line in what is sure to be an exciting game.
