Ennis Mental Health to cease operations as directors retire

AFTER more than three decades in existence the Ennis Mental Health Association has confirmed this week that it will fully cease operations at the end of the month.

Maria Molloy, chair of the registered charity, explained that the board of directors believes the time is right to retire after many years of service locally.

Like-minded local organisations and charities have been presented with the organisation’s remaining funds, she added.

Ms Molloy expressed appreciation for the “generous support” the organisation has received over the years.

And she reminded anyone with concerns about their mental health that support is available from Mental Health Ireland.

She said, “Ennis Mental Health Association has operated in the town of Ennis and its environs for over 32 years.

“Following much consideration, and after many years of commitment, the Board of Directors of Ennis Mental Health Association has decided that the time has now come for them to retire.”

She continued, “We are extremely grateful for the generous support we have received from the people of Ennis and environs through the years, and for the strong relationships we have built with like-minded agencies and organisations operating in Ennis.

“We are extremely proud of our many worthy projects, activities, and events over the last 32 years.

“Our sincere hope is that we have raised a much greater awareness of wellness and well-being, a greater understanding of mental health, and that we have left a legacy of inclusivity, connectedness, and empathy.”

She outlined that in “close co-ordination” with auditors Ennis Mental Health Association will fully cease operations on October 31, 2022.

“All our remaining funds have been dispersed to a number of like-minded local organisations and local charities, who are doing superb work in the region.”

She concluded, “We want to remind you that you’re not alone if you’re feeling low or are worried about your mental health or that of someone you know Mental Health Ireland has lots of helpful resources and information on their website that are free to use and share (www.mentalhealthireland.ie/resources).

“If you need to talk to someone, Mental Health Ireland have a list of helplines that you can contact for confidential, non-judgemental support. Most helplines can provide a listening service, give information and advice, provide emotional support, or point you in the direction of other services (www.mentalhealthireland.ie/support).
