Photograph by Declan MonaghanESB Moneypoint representatives paid a visit to Burrane National School in Killimer last Thursday as part of their IT link up with the school.
Station manager Glenn Pope was joined by environmental officer Damon Murphy and station chemist/environmental co-ordinator John Wall. The visitors also brought an electric car with them to the school. The car is used in the grounds of the ESB power station in Moneypoint.
“The electric vehicle we brought on the day went down a treat with all the students and some interesting debate ensued in relation to their merits and their performance,” John Wall said.
As part of Moneypoint’s sustainability drive, the station is keen to expand its fleet of electric cars.
“Electric vehicles are to be promoted as an environmentally sound means of transport as a sign that the station is behind this drive. An electric vehicle in now part of the Moneypoint fleet while bicycles are now used as an alternative form of transport around the site,” Mr Wall added.
He said ESB Moneypoint is committed to working with the education sector locally.
“We in the ESB place great value in education and understand that the young students of today will some time soon be the forces which shape and mould our country into a better place both economically but more importantly socially,” he concluded.
